Currently, it appears that the icon bar is shown regardless of the user's edit settings on our set-up. I would think that if the mode is required to be set to "Edit" in order to add a new item, that the controls should not be shown on the "View" screen, right?

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not clear on what you are asking...
By "Icon Bar", are you talking about the Control Panel that displays at the top of your skin? Are you seeing the Edit icon and the Add New Artilcles link when in view mode?

You should be able to give users Edit access to the module but not the page. I've run through all the scenarios on this that I can think of and everything seems to be working the way I would expect it to work.

Actually, after re-reading the subject of your post, what you are requesting would violate the standards that DNN has put in place. Why do you need this?

    DNN 5.1.1 Tested with IE7/IE8/Firefox/Chrome/Safari
    Articles 4.1.4

I just installed the new version and am having an issue with Edit rights on some instances of the Articles module. I created an Editor role, gave it to my Editor, Gave Editor Edit rights on the Articles module instance 1 and instance 2 on another page. On instance 1 the pencil shows up and the already added articles can be edited by clicking the pencil next to the article. On instance 2 with the exact same rights for the Editor the pencil doesn't show so that the articles cannot be edited. It doesn't make any sense but that is what is happening. I decided to try it on a different portal and none of the pencils showed up!

    Any help would be appreciated.

I figured out that I had to change the Author to the Editor name so he could edit the posts. Duh!

    Hi Tom,
I'm guessing you're running into the new feature that lets you control who is allowed to edit Articles created by other users. So, first, on the Module Settings page for Articles, do you have the 4 column permission grid that includes columns for "Approve Articles", "Edit Others Articles"?

You could also give the editor role rights to "Edit Other Articles".
