Still adding features to version 3.3 - Oct. 23, 2006

Efficion is hoping to release a beta version of version 3.3 of the Articles module sometime next week. We continue to add some great and highly requested features including: ability to play Flash Videos (same as Google and YouTube use), new detail display options, Detail Page templates, ability to specify a file for the Detail Type, support for URLTracking, Sorting by Article Title, improved Category integration, ability to specify roles that can view Article Details, and FriendlyURL support.

UPDATE: We are continuing to add additional features to version 3.3 at client request. We hope to release beta 1 of Articles 3.3 by Friday, Oct 30.

UPDATE (Nov. 9, 2006): Whoosh! There went another self-imposed deadline. But I am actively working on the module now and very excited about changes and new features. I'm adding Send To A Friend capability, I've made adding templates easier as now you can just drop them in the Articles/Templates directory, I've fixed some bugs, and I've got some other nice things planned. Don't worry, I still expect to release a beta soon. Hopefully within the next week or so.

has anyone worked out the resource pool problem with this module? we are having massive issues with the server load due to the "getArticles" function which everyone seems to complain about....

I have the same problem! Is there any solution ?

You know there is a

Articles 3.3 Alpha PA

which has the 3.3.0 PA, but the

Articles 3.3 Alpha Source

holds the source for 3.3.2 and the pa for 3.3.3
So it is kind of hard to contribute.

How about adding the source for 3.3.0 since 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 depend on the categories module to have a iconfile which it still doesn't have. So these cause errors....

Hi David, I made a module which was kind of based on you're module and got a lot of ""Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached” Errors.

It seems the way you are talking to the database does not close the connections.

It would be a good idea to modify this to the standard DNN method, using a dataprovide.vb and sqldataprovider.vb.

It's great if you can upload source code of this Alpha version 3.3 for reference (I had try to decomplied but It seems not completed). Urgently, I need customized for currently website.
I am looking forward for your information

I have same problem with salvo jed.
My Server working too hard with 100% CPU Usage.
When analyzed with SQL Profiler, problem come from Articles.GetArticles store procedure.
Original design was designed for M-Article can place in M-Catgories, But I do not need this feature.

So, I have modify SQL Code for that store procedure. If anyone want this SQL Code, ask me at bomb@yimsiam.com

good afternoon..
i've a problem with the articles module.. my dnn portal crashes with this error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached”.
Can you help me? Thanks..

It would be great to see better implementation of localization. In 3.2.6, not all aspects of the module will allow itself to be customized.

hi, I would like to thank you for the great effort that you have put to this project, it has grown a lot and everyday we request new features. but one of the most important features from my point of view is using AJAX technology in the article module, especially for the category field and image field and other parts which needs the page to reload.
waiting for your next version to come out .

Brent Lamborn Says:

It would be nice too, for users to be able to "subscribe" to an article so that they are emailed when a new comment is posted to an article - not just the author.

Love the module. Can't wait for the new version. Is there a way to display the username in the comments rather than FirstName & LastName ? Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Thanks for the great work.
I'd like to know if with the improved category integration will it be possible to have multiple instances of the category module, each one with its own categories?

What I am trying to achieve is to use the article module for different functions, and each function has different (and not related) categories.

Thanks in advance!

Nice work! (using v3.2.6 on dnn 4.3.5)
Feature request:
- Article rating
- Search by category
- Category listing with article count (much like dotnetnuke.com's 'Reviewed modules' list).

marnix b Says:
10/20/2006 4:29:02 AM

Oh yeah, another thing that might be great would be an archive function, so instead of articles expiring, they go into another category, or a special list view or something...

You might want to take a look at the news module at www.orizonti.com

marnix b Says:
10/20/2006 4:27:01 AM

Besides the:
- publish date
- last modified date
- expire date

You might want to put in a new field called:
- headlinedate

Which is a date field people can freely use to fill in a date.
You would also have to add the ability to sort on this field.

This way you can use the module as an event calendar,
Showing articles sorted by Headlinedate.

You can not use publishdate for this, since publish date is used to publish an article, so the event only shows up on the day of the event.

You can not use expirydate for this, since you might want to keep the article visible for a bit longer than the date the event takes place.

There is still a big problem with opening the article in a page on the site. It doesn't work, even if we have a module in there.

Is there any solution yet?

Laurence Neville Says:

Will you still be making a source code version available? I customized the 3.2.6 version for my site and I would like to be able to do the same with 3.3.
Thanks
