Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO RankingsOverview

While there are some technical aspects involved with SEO that make a big difference, much of what determines your page ranking is really about common sense: the pages with the best content rise to the top of the rankings. There are many things you can do to make sure your site is well optimized for search engines but that only gets you so far. For the highly coveted words and phrases, if you want to rank well , you need lots of good, relevant, fresh content.

Optimized HTML

One area where we can really make a difference is through the HTML that is used to render your site. We focus on producing clean, semantic markup, that lets the Search Engine spiders and algorithms focus on your keywords and phrases rather than your site structure and design.

In particular, we focus on:

  • Page titles
  • Consistent and Search Engine Friendly URLs
  • Search Engine Friendly navigation
  • Good clean underlying HTML to prevent distractions
  • Keyword density in the content
  • Alt tag, image, and link names
  • Positioning of content in the HTML
  • Keywords in Header Tags

RIP Keywords and Description Metatags

It used to be that search engines would look in your keywords and description meta-tags to help it determine what your site is about. Due to years of abuse, that is no longer true. The description meta-tag is still used to determine what to display for the text that appears on the search engine, but neither it nor keywords has any bearing on your page ranking for the major search engines (Google, Bing/MSN/Live, Yahoo).

Content Freshness

Sites with regularly updated content perform better than static sites that rarely change. Having a news and/or blog page that is updated at least every two months can really help. The more frequent, the better.

Most sites that Efficion builds are built using frameworks that include easy to use Content Management tools that make it easy for your people to add news, announcements, blogs, events, and more to keep your site good and fresh.

Inbound Links

Inbound links from relevant sites/pages are vital to your sites ranking. Inbound links are best achieved by having articles/news published on industry specific websites that point to your site.

A great way of creating Inbound links is to use the major Social Networking sites. We've found Twitter and Linked-In Company and Individual Pages to be particularly effective.

Analysis

Now that you've put all this effort into making your site well optimized, how do you know whether, or what, is working? That's where analysis comes into play. Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools are fabulous tools for helping to figure out what is and isn't working.

We'll go through the various reports and see where you traffic is coming from, and where they're going? We'll track how many people are doing what you want them to do (purchasing an item, filling out a form, reading a story, …) and what drew them to doing those actions.

Paying for traffic - Online Ads, Offline Ads, CPC, and More

Free visits are best but sometimes, it worth it to pay for ads that target the audience you want and brings them to the page you want them to see.

We can help you create and place ads in the best places and track the effectiveness of those ads.
